Many of us kids, I’m sure, were awestruck by the mesmerizing savannah animals. As we get older, it’s time to put on the symbolic safari hat and apply insect repellent—believe me, it’s a necessity.

Safaris in Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park are excellent options for first-timers. Their flat roads and wildlife-filled plains make them welcoming to newcomers.

Between July and October, when the Great Migration takes place, is the best time to visit. Lions and cheetahs are attracted to the enormous herds of wildebeests that move. But maybe you shouldn’t go if you’re starving. The safari fields are a no limits land and the circle of life is on full presentation. We even saw a leopard carrying her prey up a tree and an antelope giving birth!
